Critical Thinking: Why Did Some 'Feminists' Want To Ban ‘Grid Girls’ and ‘Walk-On Girls’?

Recently, a darts organisation decided to no longer have ‘walk-on girls’, and, shortly after this, the F1 decided to stop using ‘grid girls’. Unsurprisingly, not everyone is happy with what has taken place.

One Assumption

It would be easy to assume that women are happy with what has happened and men are not, but it is not this black and white. There are women who are happy with this and women who aren’t, and there are men who are happy with this and men who aren’t.

Some of the women who are happy with what has taken place are feminists, yet not all feminists are happy with this outcome. This might come as a surprise to some people; especially as it is often believed that a feminist is someone who represents all women.

A Statement

Along with how certain people have responded to this news, the F1 has come out and said that "we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms". It can then seem as though the F1 is doing the right thing and that this custom has run its course.

This will be something that some feminists will agree with, and they will probably be looking into what other customs need to go, too. Therefore, this is not the end; this is just the beginning of their crusade to make the world a better place.

One Part

At the same time, it might not be accurate to say that these women want to make the world a better place, as they usually only focus on what is taking place in the west. What is going on in the Middle East, for instance, is often overlooked.

It could then be said that these kinds of women have selective outrage, which is why they are only concerned about certain things. Said another way, not every issue will have equal value in their eyes.

A Small Group of People

So, as there are so many people who don’t have an issue with women taking part in this kind of work, it can be hard to comprehend why these women have lost their jobs. One way of looking at this would be to say that these people don’t realise that these women are being exploited.

This is then something that is black and white, which means that there is no need to consider any other points of view. Another way of looking at this would be to say that these organisations do whatever a small minority tells them to do, and this is because they are usually the people who make the most noise.

The Moral High Ground

This group of people, who are usually made up of a number of women who hold high positions in society, like to present themselves as being holier than thou. As a result of this, they are the only ones who know if something is right or wrong.

Everyone else will be below them, and this can be anyone who doesn’t does think like they do or see the world in the same way, are not going to be capable of making rational decisions. Taking this into account, their views are going to be the only views that matter.

Social Progress

When a feminist believes that women shouldn’t have these kinds of jobs, she is likely to create the impression that she cares about women’s rights. She could touch upon how these types of jobs affect women and the affect that they have on the women who see them doing these jobs.

It might not matter what these women have to say and they might not care about the effect that it has had on their livelihood. This feminist will then be like a parent who knows it all, and the women who have lost their job, will be like children who don’t know anything and need to be saved.

What’s going on?

Ultimately, the only way that a woman (or a man, for that matter) can be empowered is if she is allowed to make her own decisions and to face the consequences of her actions. If other women have the ability to define what other women can or can’t do, they are not free to live their own life.

Also, what gives these feminists the right to control what other women and can’t do on this planet? Is it because these women are intellectually and morally superior to everyone else?

Control Freaks

If someone was able to pull back the curtain, so to speak, what they may find is that these women feel completely powerless at a deeper level. Their need to control what other people can and can’t do is then a way for them to compensate for how out of control they feel on the inside.

Perhaps there was a time in their life when they were abuse, and this might have caused them to believe that they have two choices: either they control other people or other people will control them. They will only have two ways of experiencing life, unable to see that there is another option.

Indirect Revenge

This would have been a time when they experienced trauma, and maybe this trauma caused then to close their heart, which is why they find it hard to empathise with others. What also stands out here is that these types of women often have a problem with women who are attractive.

Keeping this in mind, do these feminists want to stop women from being able to earn money in this way due to the fact that they are jealous and even envious of how they look? As they don’t look this way, or didn’t when they we younger, they want to make sure that other women don’t receive the attention that they are missing out on or missed out on.

A Facade

However, through positioning themselves as a ‘feminist’, they can create the impression that they care about other women. A woman like this can then violate other people and at the same time, she can look good in the process.

This is not to say that she is aware of this, as she could be totally out of touch with how she feels as a deeper level. The identity that she has created might allow her to keep her true feelings at bay.

Conclusion

It has been said that we become what we fight, so maybe these feminists need to look in the mirror and ask themselves if they have become that which they despise. This might not be easy to do, but what it will do is allow them to take a step back and to reflect on their own behaviour.

They may find that they are carrying a lot of pain or trauma that needs to be faced and worked through; if so, they may need to reach out for external support. This can be provided by a therapist or a healer.
