At this point in time, and perhaps this has been the case for quite some time, one could be in a position where their mind is often out of control. To use an analogy: it will be as though their thinking brain is a human being who drinks a lot of energy drinks.
This part of them is generally going to be all over the place, and it will be operating at a very fast pace. Naturally, experiencing life in this way is going to be incredibly exhausting. During The Day For one thing, it is likely to be a challenge for them to be present and thus, to focus on the things that they need to do. Ultimately, what is going on inside them is going to take up a lot of their attention and energy. If they are able to calm their mind down and to focus, then, it might only be a matter of time before it kicks off and they are distracted again. As a result of this, there could be so many things that they haven’t been able to do. A Build-Up When they think about what is going on and what they need to do, their mind could kick off again; that is, of course, if it isn’t already out of control. This could be a time when they are consumed by worry and fear. Ergo, their busy mind will be an issue and through having such a busy mind, they will experience even more issues. There could come a time, if they are not there already, when their secondary issues end up taking over and being the focus of what is going on up top, to so speak. In The Evening After a day like this, they could feel totally washed out; even so, this doesn’t mean that they will be able to fall asleep before long as soon as their head hits the pillow. Once again, their mind could be buzzing. It could go over what they need to do and what will happen if they don't do such-and-such, for instance. If they were to describe what is going on, it could be as if this part of them has gone into extreme troubleshooting mode. Mental Torture Alternatively, their mind could go over a ‘mistake’ that they made that day, that week, or something that took place years ago. The part of them that should be on their side is then going to be relentlessly laying into them. Like a dog with a bone, their mind simply won’t let go of what it is obsessing over. If they try to stop this part of them from doing this, that’s if they have the energy, they could find that it just gets even worse. A Living Hell Due to how painful this is, there is a strong chance that one is desperate for a way to settle their monkey mind down. They may feel so worn down that they just can’t take any more of this. The next step will be for them to look for the assistance that they need to change their life, and to keep going until they find it. Fortunately, thanks to the internet, it won’t be hard for them to find the support that they need and deserve. A Few Options This could be a time when they are encouraged to meditate as this will allow them to take a step back from what is taking place and to breathe deeply, something that will allow them to settle their nervous system down. Through regularly meditating, it will allow them to be more ‘mindful’ in their day-to-day life and less caught up in their mind. Another thing that they could learn is that their mind is playing up because they are lacking in certain vitamins and minerals. Through taking magnesium glycinate and inositol (B8), for example, their mind could settle down. Going Deeper One way of looking at what is going on would be to say that they have a ‘chemical imbalance’ and are ‘nutritionally deficient’. Going on medication, that’s if mindfulness and even CBT doesn’t do much, and sorting out their diet will be essential. Now, if this is put to one side for the moment, the big question is: why is their mind responding in this way? Of course, this could be put down to an imbalance, a deficiency or the result of one having ‘negative’ thoughts, but what if there is more to it? A Defence What if, the main reason their mind is often out of control is due to the fact that it is trying to protect them from what is going on at a deeper level? This would mean that their busy mind is not the issue; it is simply a symptom of something else that needs to be acknowledged. If their mind was to settle down, they could end up getting in touch with a lot of emotional pain. This pain, pain that is held in their emotional body, could be a consequence of what took place during their early years. Back In Time So, as painful as it is to have a mind that is out of control, what is underneath this defence could be far worse. At this stage of their life, they may have experienced a lot of trauma. Perhaps this was a time when they were abused and/or neglected on a weekly, if not daily, basis. This will mean that they are going to carry a lot of pain in their body, and their thinking brain will be doing everything that it can to keep this pain at bay and out of their conscious awareness. Awareness If one can relate to this, and they are ready to work through this pain, they may need to reach out for external support. This is something that can be provided with the assistance of a therapist or healer. As this pain starts to subside, there their mind won’t have as much pain to defend against. Consequently, it will be easier for their mind to settle down, which will make it easier for them to live in the moment and to focus.
