When it comes to day-to-day life, if someone’s inner world is mentioned it is likely to relate to what is going on in their conscious mind. Also, if one was to reach out for external support and ended up working with a counsellor/therapist, the same thing could take place.
It can seem as though what is taking place in their mind is the only thing that matters and it might not even occur to them that there is another area that is likely to be playing a part. Thus, their so-called unconscious mind is going to be left at the door. Staying On the Surface It can seem strange as to why this is an area that is typically overlooked, that is until human nature is taken consideration. One of the greatest needs that human beings have is to avoid pain. So, as the unconscious mind is the part of one's being that will basically hold material that is too painful for them to face, it is to be expected that this will be an area that is largely overlooked. The average person won’t want to go there and this will have an impact on what society is like as a whole. External Support For example, if someone had mental problems and they were to reach out for help, they could end up being offered CBT or counsellor. These are, of course, two options that generally focus on the conscious mind. But, if this didn’t take place, they could be seen as having a ‘chemical imbalance’ and end up being put on medication. In this case, it will be as though their being is playing up for no reason and due to this; they will need an external solution. An Analogy This approach is very similar to having a gardener that only cuts weeds off at the top. In the short-term, a garden can look incredible, but before long, it will soon revert to how it was in the beginning. And if the weeds won’t grow back in the same place, they will end up reappearing close by. Ultimately, the roots won’t have been dealt with, so it is inevitable that this will take place. A Gradual Build-Up Naturally, once someone is an adult, they can have a lot of material stored in their unconscious mind. Another way of looking at this area of ones being would be to call it their body. This part of their being will be where most of their baggage is stored, and this why their body can be stiff and tense. This armoring will allow them to keep feelings at bay and thereby, to keep it together. Two Extremes What this means is that the unconscious mind is not hidden somewhere that is hard to find, it is just below someone’s head. Through having a lot of ‘negativity’ in their body, it can mean that their conscious and unconscious mind can be in very different places. Up top, they can be very positive, but down below, they can be carrying a lot of negativity. As they have this extreme split inside them, their external world might not be very fulfilling even though they could have a very positive mindset. An Inner Battle To avoid what is going on internally and to not get caught up in what is going on externally will take a lot of effort. There could come a point in time when it is no longer possible for them to keep the lid on their unconscious mind. If this was to happen, they could end up falling apart and being in a very bad way. What is taking place deep inside them will also create a resonance or frequency that will literally define how they experience reality. A Mystery For example, what is going on deep within their being can define who they will attract and be attracted to. They might want to attract a certain type of person only to end up with people who are totally different, which could cause them to feel powerless. As their point of awareness will be in their head and they will be out of touch with what is taking place deep down, it will be as though they are just ‘observing’ reality. Things will just happen to them and they will have no control. Waking Up If they wanted to find out what is taking place at a deeper level, one thing that they could do is to take a step back and to look at their life. Most, if not all, of what is going on ‘out there’ will be a reflection of what is taking place inside them. This is not a time when they need to blame or shame themselves, or any else. What this is about is becoming aware of what is going on, so they can start to take their power back and to no longer be undermined by their own inner wounds. Awareness If one can relate to this, and they are ready to change their life, they may need to reach out for external support. This is a process that can take place with the assistance of a therapist or a healer. As they start to develop a better connection to their body, they may find that they come into contact with a lot of painful feelings. This can relate to what has taken place in their adult life and go back to what they experienced throughout their childhood years.
