Social Media: Why Do Some People Only Express How They Feel When They Use Social Media?

17/4/2017

If one was to use social media, they are likely to find that some of their ‘friends’ come across differently to how they do in the real world. This could mean that someone they know will act shy offline but when they are online, they could come across as being outgoing.

Another Experience

Along with this, one could notice that some of their friends don’t hold back when it comes to sharing their views online. If this was how they behaved in the real world, it might not stand out.

What would make it stand out is if this was someone who spoke about things that they don’t usually talk about. One could end up being surprised by what someone ways, or it might not have much of an effect on them.

Out of Control

When someone they know shares their views, they could do it in a clear and concise manner, and it could take place without them losing control. This means that this is someone who is not going to come across as though they are being controlled by their emotions.

At the same time, this might not always take place and someone they know could completely lose it online. One could then wonder what is going in, and it might make them question if they actually know the other person.

Hidden

One way of looking at this would be to say that it is going to be normal for people to behave differently when they go online. For one thing, they are behind a screen, and this makes it easier for them to express themselves.

When it comes to the real world, it is not going to be possible for someone to hide behind a screen. And while they will be able to hide behind a mask, they are still going to be around people.

Less Pressure

Not only are they behind a screen when they use social media, they can also use it without needing to be around anyone. It can then be as if they are simply sharing their views on a screen and their views are not having an effect on anyone.

But although it can seem as though there are no consequences to their actions, it doesn’t mean that this is actually the case. What they say online can ‘offend’ people, and it can have an effect on how their ‘friends’ see them.

A Release

When someone expresses how they feel online, they can find that they end up feeling better about themselves soon after. It can be as if they have let go of a weight that they have been carrying.

Once this has taken place, they might not have the need to lose control online for a little while. However, there is also the chance that this is something that will take a place a few times a day.

A Number of Options

Someone can express how they feel when they are commenting on something one of their ‘friends’ has shared, or they can comment on a page, for instance. When it comes to the former, it could end up having a negative effect on their relationships.

On the other hand, if they lose control when they are commenting on a page they have ‘liked’, it will be different. Nonetheless, what they say to other people online can be seen by their ‘friends’, so it can be just as bad.

Something for Everyone

When someone needs an emotional release, it is not going to be hard for them to find something to comment on. And if there is something in particular that gets a rise out of them, they will soon be able to find something.

Once this has taken place, someone might find that they are able to go back to what they were doing before. Therefore, if they were unable to go online, they could find that they start to experience inner tension.

Emotional intelligence

One way of looking at this would be to say that what this shows that this is someone who doesn’t have healthy relationship with their emotions. There is the chance that they are not even aware of why they feel the way they do.

And even if they are aware whey feel a certain way; they might not do anything about it. As a result of this, the only thing they can do to feel better is to have a go at people on social media.

A Short-Term Solution

This is going to allow them to feel better about themselves for a short while, but it is unlikely to change what is taking place in their life. There is then going to be no reason for them to change how they behave online.

Time is going to pass and their life could get even worse, and this can then cause them to have an even greater need to release how they feel online. What can also play a part here is that someone can fear how people would respond if they were to open up about how they feel in the real world.

A Common Outlook

When someone expresses how they feel in the real world, they can end up being seen as someone who is out of control. And through opening up and being vulnerable, it can cause them to be seen as weak.

Conclusion

It is then not much of a surprise for someone to hide how they feel in the real world and to release how they feel when they are behind a screen. Through doing this, it can allow them to maintain the image that they have created in the real world.

This doesn’t mean that someone has to continue to behave in this way; they can gradually develop a healthy relationship with their emotions. What this will then do is to allow them to do is to listen to how they feel, and to use the information that is within them to change their life.
