Due to what is currently taking place in the world, it has meant that a lot of people have paid more attention to the mainstream media than usual. Additionally, there are those that have started to pay attention to this source again after having ignored it for so long.
As far as this source is concerned, this is going to be a good thing. For many years, more and more people have been turning their back on this source of information, so this will be a much-needed boost. Two Extremes Still, this is not to say that what is going on has benefited every mainstream news source. No, as there have been a number of media branches that have recently had to shut down. In a lot of cases, this has related to branches that focused on issues that typically wouldn’t have been covered by the main branch. The main source will still be in operation but the company behind it will have had to downsize in order to survive. The Clear Reason When it comes to why this source has been getting more views than usual, it could be said that this is primarily due to fear. Through feeling fearful and having the need to know what is going on in the world, someone will look towards this source to keep them informed. Bearing in mind that what is going on is radically different from what has taken place for a very long time, it is to be expected that the average person would be this way. As to how often they tune into this source, it could depend on a number of different factors. Effortless If they have a Smartphone, they will be able to find out about what is going on no matter where they are or what time it is. Essentially, they will have the mainstream media in their pocket. They may find that there are moments when they become so consumed by what is going on that certain areas of their life end up being neglected. Nonetheless, as a result of what is going on, this might not be seen as a problem. In The Know As far as they are concerned, behaving in this way could be seen as the only way for them to stay up to date with what is going in the world. Through reading so many articles and/or watching so many news broadcasts, they could believe that they have a good understanding of what is going on. Furthermore, they could wear a mask whenever they go out and use the right hand gel to clean their hands with too. In this regard, one will be doing the right thing by watching the news and living in the right way by taking the recommended precautions. Another Angle However, although paying attention to this news source as often as possible can appear to be the best thing to do, what if it isn’t? What if behaving in this way can actually do more harm than good? One response to this could be: how could paying attention to what is going on in the world be harmful? Surely, one is going to be in a better position if they are in the know as opposed to being totally ignorant? Business as Usual Naturally, being aware of what is going on is important, but can the mainstream media really be trusted to inform people? Someone doesn’t need to be much of a critical thinker to see that this source of information’s main priority is to define how people see the world and to keep them in state of fear. Therefore, while the point of focus might be different right now, it is yet another thing for people to fear. The contagion might not have anything to do with terrorism but people are still being terrorised. An Important Point With that aside, what needs to be taken into consideration is that one is not merely an observer of reality. Their thoughts, emotions and feelings, along with their beliefs, have an impact on their life. Also, what is taking place internally has an impact on their body and mind. Bruce Lipton, a cellular biologist, has talked about the effect that fear has on the mind and body. Undermined He has said that when someone is exposed to fear, their immune system is suppressed and blood leaves their vital organs. Their intelligence is also lowered – potentially becoming twenty-seven percent dumber - thanks to the blood being pulled away from the front of their brain (the frontal lobes) and being sent to the parts of their brain that are to do with their survival. What is clear here is that experiencing an endless amount of fear is not good for someone’s mind and body. And with what is going on, the last thing one will want is to have a compromised immune system. Conclusion To endlessly consume the mainstream media, and to experience a lot of fear in the process, will be similar to eating something that has poison inside. It can seem as though this is the right thing for one to do but it will be something that is weakening them. This is not to say that one should turn their back on this news source but it will be important for them to be mindful of the impact that it has on their wellbeing. What they can also do is to engage in things that will boost their immune system.
